Hypertension Care

Recognition for demonstrating high levels of Hypertension care

High blood pressure, or hypertension, affects millions of Americans and costs billions of dollars to treat every year. To encourage more effective treatment and management, BTE worked with hypertension experts to develop measures to assess and reward superior clinician performance. Measures address a broad range of issues affecting patient health and wellness.

To earn Recognition, clinicians must meet benchmarks around such measures as:

  • Blood pressure and lipid management
  • Aspirin use
  • Diabetes screening
  • Smoking cessation
  • Urine protein test
  • Counseling for diet and physical activity

Those who do will improve overall patient health and well being, while reducing the risk of potentially avoidable complications.

New applicants seeking recognition from the BTE Hypertension Care Program October 1 and later will be evaluated under these revised and updated measures. Clinicians with current BTE Hypertension Care Program recognitions need not reapply until the two-year term of their recognition expires.
