Performance Assessment Organizations
and Recognition Programs

In order to receive the rewards available under the Bridges to Excellence programs in BTE markets, eligible physicians must pass a corresponding performance assessment program administered by one of the BTE-recognized Performance Assessment Organizations (PAOs).  BTE-recognized PAOs include: the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA); MassPRO, Massachusetts' Quality Improvement Organization; and IPRO, New York State's Quality Improvement Organization.

For POL Rewards, physicians must pass either NCQA’s, MassPRO's or IPRO's office practice performance assessment program. NCQA’s office practice performance assessment program, Physician Practice Connections (PPC), involves a set of standards associated with comprehensive systems in three critical areas: clinical information systems, patient education and support, and care management. NCQA evaluates office practices to determine if they meet the established performance standards in each of these three systems areas.  MassPRO and IPRO's DOQ-IT assessment programs also assess similar areas. Click here for more information on NCQA's PPC, MassPRO, or IPRO recognition programs.

For DCL Rewards, physicians must pass NCQA’s diabetes care performance assessment program. NCQA’s diabetes performance assessment program, Diabetes Prevention Recognition Program(DPRP) consists of a set of standards associated with processes and outcomes involved in the care of patients with diabetes. Performance measurement areas include HbA1c levels and blood pressure. NCQA evaluates physicians to determine if they meet the established diabetes care standards for 3-year recognition through the DPRP. Click here for more information on NCQA DPRP recognition.

For CCL Rewards, physicians must pass NCQA’s cardiac performance assessment program. NCQA’s cardiac performance assessment program, Heart/Stroke Recognition Program (HSRP), consists of a set of standards associated with processes and outcomes involved in the care of patients with cardiovascular disease or who have had a stroke. Performance measurement areas include blood pressure and lipid testing. NCQA evaluates physicians to determine if they meet the established cardiac care standards for 3-year recognition through the HSRP. Click here for more information on NCQA HSRP recognition.

For SCL Rewards, physicians must pass NCQA's spine care performance assessment program.  NCQA's spine care performance assessment program, Back Pain Recognition Program (BPRP), consists of a set of standards associated with process and outcomes involved in the care of patients with back pain.  Must pass performance measurement areas include avoiding unnecessary imaging and epidural steroid injections. NCQA evaluates physicians to determine if they meet the established spine care standards for 2-year recognition through DPRP. Click here for more information on NCQA BPRP recognition.
